wk 14-20 quest 3
3-I enjoyed reading about the concept of conflict management. With communication rules and certain expectations groups will always have conflict. Because we all know rules will be broken, so conflict management is set to have open communication and confrontation. When groups have this open confrontation groups can extract positive feedback from their conflicts and begin working on their communication. It was interesting to read that Asian cultures view the truth of a person relies in the totality of a person, and being able t maintain a harmonious group. Western cultures, America, view the truth will be in logic and reason. Native American also raised their children to reside in harmony. And Mexican American children are taught to collectively share their knowledge. The book used the example of sharing answers in school, cheating. This cultural difference would be a good explanation for many other social differences between Mexican and American culture.

PPat, I thought that you post was interesting. I also liked that section of the chapter. I think that it is always a good idea to understand that in most small groups there are going to be some instances of conflict. If people can realize this ahead of time and be prepared to settle disputes, I feel that the groups then end up working better together. A group that does not resolve its conflict ultimately does not do as well as it could if they would work out their differences. Communication is key in conflict management, and without it nothing would really get accomplished.
