quest 3 wk3/22-27

A concept in the book about listening that was interesting was a barrier in active listening. Distracting delivery, judging the speaker’s personal characteristics. I have been guilty of having this barrier. I have had teachers who have dressed unprofessional, out of date, and not for their body type. It definitely distracts me, I keep trying to make them over in my head instead of listening to their lecture. I associate the way they dress to their teaching abilities and feel their decision making might be altered by their lack of right decisions for their clothing choices. As I’m writing it sounds very vain and superficial, but in some cases when a teacher doesn’t dress professionally I assume they don’t take their career seriously. Therefore I tend not to listen to their lecture actively, and results in having distracting delivery.
